This is in the Visitor Center for the Joshua Tree National Park. After I'd had enough for the day, I headed back down the hill to the visitor center to get some water, and check out the visitor center. (It was strangely closed when I entered the park this morning, slightly before 7:00).
I picked up a few little souvenirs in the gift shop. I asked the ranger how hot it was. He said that the last time he'd looked, it was about 98 and pointed to this thermometer on the far wall. Suffice to say, I was curious what it read.
Granted, the temperature lead was not in the shade, but it was beneath a slotted gazebo sort of thing. It was indeed catching some direct sun. Of course, when there isn't any shade at all outside... why believe a thermometer that's in the shade?what is a thermometer
